Tim Murphy is chief administrative officer for Mastercard, overseeing the company’s law, franchise and integrity activities, as well as its people and capabilities function. He is also a member of the company’s management committee.
Prior to assuming this role, Tim served as the company's general counsel for seven years, helping advance Mastercard's legal and regulatory affairs, public policy, corporate governance and compliance while also bringing a business mindset to further evolve the legal function.
Throughout his 20-plus year tenure at Mastercard, Tim has also served as chief product officer, president of the company’s U.S. region, executive vice president of customer business planning and analysis, senior vice president and associate general counsel.
Before joining Mastercard in 2000, he was an associate in the New York and London offices of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton.
Tim is chair of the board of trustees for the National Urban League and a member of the board of trustees of Northwestern Mutual. He also sits on the boards of the U.S.-Russia Business Council and Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship. He is a member of the Legal Services Corporation’s Leaders Council, the Economic Club of New York and the Council on Foreign Relations.
Tim was named a Legend in Law in 2018 by the Burton Foundation.
He received a JD degree, magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School and a BA degree in political science from Amherst College.
